Ecuador's Independence Day

The 20th century was the century marked by Wars of national liberation and revolutions in Ecuador and throughout Latin America. The revolutionary movement in Quito, the capital of Ecuador, in August 1809, became the benchmark for the sequence of further revolutions. As a result the country's independence from Spanish colonization was proclaimed. Another revolution occurred in October 1810. National Movement won in 1822, when the Colombian Army defeated the Spaniards and Ecuador joined Simon Bolivar's Republic of Gran Colombia.
