International Anti-Corruption Day was proclaimed on 8 December 2003 when the UN Anti-Corruption Convention was signed. This document means that the countries who signed it must make bribes, embezzlement and money laundering a criminal offense, according to one of the Convention’s clauses, funds should be returned to the country they have come through corruption. Corruption is a complex social, economic, and political phenomenon that affects all countries to a varying degree, irrespective of their development level. It slows down economic development and undermines social order.
