International Anti-Smoking Day

International Anti-Smoking Day is celebrated annually on 19 November. The American Cancer Society proclaimed it in 1977. According to WHO, smoking causes 90% of deaths from by lung cancer, 75% from chronic bronchitis, and 25% from ischemic heart disease. One smoker dies every ten seconds in the world (by 2020, this level can go up to one person every second). The goal of the International Anti-Smoking Day is to reduce the spread of tobacco addiction and involve all social groups and the medical community into smoking prevention measures and raising public awareness of the harm smoking causes human health.
