The National Day of Kuwait

British protectorate until 1961, Kuwait received full independence only to be attacked by Iraq which wanted to gain control over the country. However, both the UK and Arab League nations totally opposed Iraq’s claim. Kuwait proclaimed its independence on 25 February 1961, since which date the National Day of Kuwait has become one of the main holidays in the country.
