World Blood Donor Day is celebrated every year on the day of birthday anniversary of Karl Landsteiner on 14 June in 1868. (1868 – 1943) - Karl Landsteiner, (June 14, 1868 – June 26, 1943), was an Austrian and American biologist and physician who received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1930. World Blood Donor Day is a special day celebrating voluntary blood donors. The event, established in 2004, serves to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products, and to thank blood donors for their voluntary, life-saving gifts of blood. The Day is coordinated by the World Health Organisation, International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the International Society of Blood Transfusion, The International Federation of Blood Donor Organizations.
