In the middle of the 19th century the first groups of volunteers were organized at the initiative of Jean Henri Dunant. They gave help to the wounded people on the battlefields. In 1863 at the initiative of Jean Henri Dunant the conference was organized marked the beginning of the International Committee of the Red Cross.

The official name of World Red Cross was established in 1928 at the 13th International Conference in the Hague. In October, 1986, at the 25th International Conference the new name of organization was established - The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. The main aim of the Movement – to give help to the wounded people on the battlefields, to people hurt in war, prisoners of war, victims of armed conflicts and victims of natural disasters. The fundamental principles of The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement are – humanity, impartiality, volunteerism, unity and universality.
