World Television Day

The UN General Assembly made 21 November 1998 World Television Day to honour the anniversary of the first World Television Forum in 1996. Television plays an important role in influencing public opinion and educating the younger generations worldwide. Therefore, the UN encourages UN member-states and leading media outlets to pay more attention to TV content favouring programmes aimed at education, enlightenment and promoting universal cultural values, tolerance, peace and cultural exchange.
