Destitution makes way for poverty

The World Bank has published a report entitled “Poverty and Prosperity for All, Cooperatively Addressing the Eradication of Poverty”. According to the authors of the document, almost half of the world's population (3.4 billion people) live on less than five and a half dollars a day. For countries with incomes above the world’s average, this is an indicator of poverty. Families in such conditions have to literally fight for the satisfaction of only their basic needs. But the most negative figures in the report do not characterize poverty. According to scientists, today every tenth person on the planet lives in extreme poverty - on 1.9 dollars a day!

Economists have explained that the rates of extreme poverty have declined three times over the past quarter century. In 1990, 36% of the world's population could afford to spend no more than two dollars a day to sustain themselves. But the pace of this decline has slowed in recent years.

The World Bank President Jim Yong Kim considers elimination of extreme poverty by 2030 and improvements in overall well-being the bank’s goals. He believes that a broader approach can be taken to addressing poverty at different levels around the world as the problem is very widespread and deeply rooted. Therefore, it is now very important to invest in the fight against poverty and the eradication of poverty.
