Form and Substance: G20 Summit in Osaka

For the fourteenth time, the leaders of the G20 countries gathered together. As predicted by the experts of the Planetary Development Institute, the main achievement of this summit, alas, was the fact of their meeting. As expected, no breakthrough decisions regarding the world’s global problems were taken.

The joint communiqué, signed on the results of two-day meetings in Osaka, diplomatically reflects many painful points of development of civilization. The need for joint activities, joint efforts, coordination of actions, importance, concern, commitment ... It is necessary to resolve the problems of mass migration, ensure world energy security, counteract the spread of violence on the Internet, develop clean energy and tourism, continue to fight climate threats, albeit without the USA... Against the background of similar general formulations, the G20 members pledged to promote women's equal rights in employment, education and entrepreneurs, as well as completely stop the release of plastic into the oceans by 2050. These resolutions look real, concrete and businesslike.

Perhaps, more was expected at the summit from the bilateral negotiations of the leaders of the nations, whose relations have recently become strained. Again, the main thing is that these negotiations did take place, which allowed political scientists and journalists to announce the beginning of positive processes. But, it must be admitted that there is a huge difference between reminding each other about disagreements and trying to resolve them. Local agreements on the continuation of the dialogues are wonderful, but the world is still in a very unstable state. With the growing global threats to civilization, humanity is still divided. And this is also one of the conclusions of the G20 Summit in Osaka.
