Red Code for the Humanity

16.08.2021

After a weekend of foreboding among climate wonks, the United Nations International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Working Group I released its contribution to the Sixth Assessment Report, Climate Change 2021: The Physical Science Basis on Monday. This is the first of three working group contributions to be released over the next 9 months before the IPCC releases the final assessment report in the fall of 2022. With each report building off the others, this first report focuses on what the science itself says, an aggregation of the evidence to date, and what that means for our future — most of which looks bleak.

People are actually happier when they make more money

31.01.2021

While the old adage says that money can't buy happiness, several studies have shown that the more your income increases, the happier you are, up to $ 75,000 a year. Once this threshold is reached, more income doesn't matter. The happiest people in the world have an average annual salary of $ 36,000. The happiest country in the world appears to be Finland, and in its capital, Helsinki, the average salary is £ 27,936 (about US $ 36,000). This study follows the much-discussed Princeton University study in 2010, which found that emotional well-being rises only with income up to about $ 75,000 for Americans (or $ 86,000 in today's dollars)...

EAT-Lancet study argue that the consumption of meat is deeply harmful for the planet. Planet needs Vegetarians!!!

10.01.2021

With the world’s population heading towards ten billion by 2050, the current consumption of meat — and the global trends towards even higher intakes — means destroying forests for pastures and increasing the industrial production of grains to feed animals. This is leading to greater greenhouse gas emissions, pollution from fertilisers and species extinctions. Also, ruminants emit methane, which is a potent greenhouse gas, further intensifying climate change. Thus, meat products have the worst environmental impacts. We have found that...

Covid-19 is pegged to cost the global economy whopping $11.5 trillion

15.12.2020

The Covid-19 is pegged to cost the global economy whopping $11.5 trillion, including $5 trillion to $5.6 trillion in GDP, a latest analysis by experts from the fields of medicine, economics, the environment and conservation, shows. The paper, authored by 17 experts and published in science , reads that for a century, two new viruses per year have spilled from their natural hosts into humans. And, MERS, SARS, and H1N1 epidemics, the HIV and Covid pandemics testify to their damage. Compared to the estimated cost of Covid-19, the paper (Ecology and economics for pandemic prevention) claims that spending $260 billion to $270 billion over 10 years would substantially reduce chances of another pandemic on the scale of the current outbreak...

What to expect from President-elect Joe Biden

05.12.2020

The US election is over. Joe Biden will be the next president. The result is now largely accepted by the press, business leaders, foreign leaders, and others. What will the election outcome mean for government policy going forward? The answer is that it depends on the outcome of Senate elections which will determine which party controls the Senate. Currently, we know that the Democrats control 48 seats and Republicans will control 50 seats in the 100-seat Senate. Two seats are yet to be determined. The general consensus is that Republicans have a better chance of holding all four, but there is some uncertainty. The Democrats need two of those seats to gain control while the Republicans need three...

Why did so many Americans vote for Trump?

30.11.2020

President Trump’s disastrous mishandling of the coronavirus pandemic probably cost him re-election. Yet it seems mind-boggling that he still won more votes than any incumbent president in American history despite his dereliction of responsibility at a time of a once-in-a-century health crisis and economic devastation. Democrats, struggling to make sense of it all, are locked in yet another round of mutual recrimination: They were either too progressive for swing voters — too socialist or aggressive with ambitious policies like the Green New Deal — or not progressive enough to inspire potential Democratic voters to show up or cross over...

Adoption of Dubai Declaration to Measure Progress of SDGS

31.10.2019

The second United Nations World Data Forum launched a Dubai Declaration to increase financing for better data and statistics for sustainable development. Dubai Declaration includes detailed measures to boost funding for data and statistical analysis for monitoring and speeding up progress towards the 2030 SDGs. It aimed towards mobilising domestic and international funds and activating more effective data partnerships. It acknowledged that in the 2030 agenda Member States committed to “promote transparent and accountable public-private cooperation to exploit the contribution to be made by a wide range of data, including earth observation and geospatial information, while ensuring national ownership in supporting and tracking progress”.

Green Summits Global Outlook

16.10.2019

I have some good news and some bad news regarding the climate emergency. I will start with the good news. The world, as a small number of people have been saying lately, will not end in 11 years. The bad news however is that around the year 2030, if we continue with business as usual, we will likely be in a position where we may pass a number of tipping points. And then we might no longer be able to undo the irreversible climate breakdown. A lot of people, a lot of politicians, business leaders, journalists say they don't agree with what we are saying. They say we children are exaggerating, that we are alarmists. To answer this I would like to refer to page 108, chapter 2 in the latest IPCC report...

G-20 & COP24 (Planetary Concerns)

20.12.2018

Finally, the year 2018 is going to end. Last few months have been very eventful. Lots of Planetary Concerns which have been highlighted in our portal www.planetaryproject.com have been discussed in the G-20 summit and the COP24 in Poland recently in December this year. This year’s G-20 meeting was important because it preceded the COP24 climate change conference taking place in Katowice, Poland from 3 December, at which the “Work Program” or rule book of the 2015 Paris Agreement – when practically all countries signed up to a pledge to ensure global temperatures do not rise by more than 2 degrees before the end of this century – is expected to be agreed.

New initiatives in energy, water and agriculture sectors announced United Nations Climate Conference (COP23)

17.11.2017

New commitments and initiatives in energy, water and agriculture sectors were announced on Friday, at the United Nations Climate Conference (COP23) in Bonn, Germany, under the auspices of the Marrakech Partnership for Global Climate Action to help implement the Paris Agreement. The Marrakech Partnership aims at catalyzing greater climate action by public and private stakeholders as the Paris Agreement, adopted in 2015, calls on countries to combat climate change by limiting the rise of global temperature below 2 degrees Celsius and strive not to exceed 1.5 degrees Celsius...

NDB Bank: A step towards the concept of Planetary Rent!

28.10.2017

The launch of the BRICS Development Bank suggests that BRICS countries have no intention of disappearing into economic and policy oblivion. The establishment of a $100 billion dollar liquidity reserve and a $50 billion New Development Bank (NBD) in Shanghai marks the start of a new financial system. As each country acts to maximize its own utility, the emerging economies of the BRICS nations will create a paralleling international financial system ultimately challenging the hegemony of the current western-dominated system.

AL GORE AND AN INCONVENIENT SEQUEL: TRUTH TO POWER

20.09.2017

A decade after AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH brought climate change into the heart of popular culture, comes the riveting and rousing follow-up that shows just how close we are to a real energy revolution. Former Vice President Al Gore continues his tireless fight traveling around the world training an army of climate champions and influencing international climate policy...

One Belt, One Road - Great initiative or a Road to nowhere

23.05.2017

At one level, One Belt, One Road has the potential to be perhaps the world’s largest platform for regional collaboration. What does that actually mean? There are two parts to this, the belt and the road, and it’s a little confusing. The belt is the physical road, which takes one from here all the way through Europe to somewhere up north in Scandinavia. That is the physical road. What they call the road is actually the maritime Silk Road, in other words, shipping lanes, essentially from here to Venice. Therefore it’s very ambitious—potentially ambitious—covering about 65 percent of the world’s population, about one-third of the world’s GDP, and about a quarter of all the goods and services the world moves.

Global Economic Outlook for Globe, Russia and Saudi Arabia (Reflection on oil & gas sector) 2017

10.02.2017

Russia - oil accounts for some 13% of Russia’s GDP and a considerable larger share of its exports. There are many predictions of how oil prices will develop in future but one thing is relatively widely agreed upon: the oil price won’t bounce back above 100 USD per barrel in the near future. It is also almost as widely agreed that 2016 will mark the low-point of prices. For example The World Bank expects oil price to recover to 48 USD by 2017. Saudi Arabia - The deficit shrank to 297 billion riyals ($79 billion) in 2016. That was well below a record 367 billion gap in 2015, and below the government

The rise of the Titans

18.01.2017

Although the year started with a sharp drop in temperatures, it seems that the geo-political and financial temperatures are not going to fall anytime in near future. Yesterday we had the following points made very clear by the U.K. Administration:
1. Britain will not seek to remain a member of Europe single market.
2. The legal jurisdiction in Britain of the European Court of Justice will end.
3. But it will seek a free-trade deal with the European Union
4. Both houses of Parliament must approve any final deal.
That

Can we try to think of Managed harmony with the concept of "Mutual respect"?

25.12.2016

Tolerance is a western concept; Mutual respect is the "Eastern" concept. Can we try to think of Managed harmony with the concept of "Mutual respect"? This is at such a time when the word "Tolerance" is losing its meaning in the western world. Migrants, guests, aliens and many other people from Eastern Europe are already a big irritation factor in the west. So what is better for the concept of managed harmony. Mutual respect or tolerance?

Primakov readings - Planetary Project Outlook

30.11.2016

On November 30, Vladimir Putin attended the Primakov Readings International Forum, which were held to study the academic and political legacy of Yevgeny Primakov. The agenda included speeches by Russian and foreign politicians, academics and public figures who knew Mr Primakov.

Heal the world

27.10.2016

The relevance of the song "Heal the world" is so much actual today, as our hearts go out to all those people who are hit by terrorism, war, conflicts, violence created by hate speeches.

Today is the time for Managed Harmony. All technologies, all our progress will fail incase we are unable to create an atmosphere of harmony and make this "World a better place to live"

New face of Asia

26.09.2016

So far, 60 countries including the world's top two polluters - China and USA - have ratified the Agreement which was adopted by 195 countries in Paris last December. While China and USA had ratified it on September 3, as many as 31 countries had formally joined the Agreement through formal ratification or acceptance at a special event, hosted by the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in New York, on September 21.

Paradigm shift to new global power and a NEW WORLD ORDER?

06.09.2016

BREXIT, world economy, terrorism were some of the main issues discussed during the G-20 summit in China which finished on 5th September 2016. But a clear shift in world power center was visible during the meet.

BREXIT-a reality! Be ready for a new Europe and a new World.

24.06.2016

Whole night the referendum kept us all awake. By evening the Pound Sterling started falling when the people lined up to exchange the Pound Sterling into Euros.

As a result the Pound Sterling landed to a 31 year low.

But more worse was the early morning news. 52% nearly pointing to BREXIT.

What will follow ? Next! - FREXIT, GERXIT ??

Global warming

04.04.2016

Global warming is one of the most significant and difficult issues facing the world today. Melting down of glaciers can have such an adverse effect on the global water level that in coming years, it can be the reason of biggest catastrophe . 2016 summit in Paris about climate change however does not answer the reasons of such climatic adversities. It certainly did highlight the fact that now the developing nations need to pay for all the crimes done by the developed nations.

UN Transformation Concept

19.10.2015

Many political scientists, economists, experts and analysts of modern international social processes have long argued that despite its continuous activity and sessions, the United Nations can hardly be said to fulfil its charter functions in full. They blame it on the UN outdated structure, inadequate decision making and decision enforcing mechanisms, and insufficient resources.

Solar Power: the future of energy

02.06.2016

Solar energy is the one solution to the energy crisis, that above all other sources seems to make the most sense. The hunt for energy from fossil fuels continues to cause problems for our planet. Fossil fuels have become a source of speculation and speculators want to earn money. Fossil fuels mean power and supplies may be forthcoming or cut off at will, which could lead to war.

How much the coronavirus will cost the world's economy?

01.09.2020

The given question has been bothering all the economists. The UN's trade and development agency says the slowdown in the global economy caused by the coronavirus outbreak is likely to cost at least $1 trillion or even more...

Paris Climate Summit: Success and Failures

05.05.2017

Paris climate summit had ended last year (2016) on a great positive note, with lots of pledges about promising to end the era of fossil fuels and promises to avoid the climate catastrophe. US President Donald Trump is expected to decide soon whether to withdraw from the Paris Agreement on climate change. Mr Trump has now raised the prospect that the US, the world’s richest nation and second-largest carbon emitter after China, may not meet its commitment.

Global warming

20.03.2016

Global warming is one of the most significant and difficult issues facing the world today. Melting down of glaciers can have such an adverse effect on the global water level that in coming years, it can be the reason of biggest catastrophe . 2016 summit in Paris about climate change however does not answer the reasons of such climatic adversities. Forced Migration: A harsh reality

06.04.2016

Europe is experiencing one of the most significant influxes of migrants and refugees in its history. Pushed by civil war and terror and pulled by the promise of a better life, huge numbers of people have fled the Middle East and Africa, risking their lives along the way. More than a million migrants and refugees crossed into Europe in 2015, compared with just 280,000 the year before. The scale of the crisis continues, with more than 135,000 people arriving in the first two months of 2016.

Climate Action Planning (courtesy BBC)

20.11.2021

Developing a 1.5°C-compatible climate action plan is a vital step for cities to respond to the climate crisis. It enables cities to identify, and form an equitable strategy to address, their biggest sources of emissions and their climate risks.

Major Problems of developing Asia concerning Environment

06.04.2016

The Asia-Pacific region is home to about 950 million people living below the poverty line. They spend a large portion of their income on basic food commodities. Consequently, rising food prices push more people below the poverty line. A strong and sustained growth momentum is needed to tackle the problem of poverty and food insecurity. Countries need economic reforms to improve productivity, particularly that of their agricultural sector, strengthen public institutions, improve economic governance, enhance financial inclusion and build social safety nets to protect the more vulnerable segments of the population.

World of Harmony

10.04.2016

Recently I heard Dalai Lama speaking about compassion. He said that till the moment human mind is full of compassion there is a hope for harmony among people, of different religion & of different civilizations. Only when the negative feelings creep in like "indefference" that we need to worry. I was reminded of this saying from my moral science class in Class VI. Dalai Lama went on to speak lengths about China, Tibet & how was he the longest guest of IndianGovt. and how was he the true son of India. The basic idea of Nalanda teachings, as he claimed, made India an unique place where all cultures, religion co exist in harmoney. That's what is the true idea of our planetary project too.

Unity of religions: certainly no confusion

28.03.2018

All religions are equally valid ways of knowing God or truth. External differences between religions are only accidental, while their inner core lies in one thing - in the knowledge of the Divine or the Higher Reality. The share of truth is present in art, science and non-religious components of human culture.
